Warden Abbey Vineyard is Bedfordshire's only commercial vineyard.

Planted in 1986 on the site of a 12th century vineyard attached to a Cistercian Abbey, our first vintage was 1990.

Every year since then one or more of our wines have won awards, including several from the prestigious International Wine Challenge.

The winemaking year starts in early January with the pruning. As the vine flowers on new wood, much of last year's wood must be taken out. At Warden we prune to the Double Guyot (two arm) system so two of last year's branches are left, as is a spur in case of damage to the main arms....

Since April 2010, the vineyard has been leased to Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity and Bedford College for community and educational use.
