New Releases - November 2009
The long-awaited 2007 Warden Sparkling wines have arrived!
Not since 1998 has the base wine been suitable for making into sparkling wine and we were able to create two blends producing a sparkling wine using the traditional method of carrying out the second fermentation in bottle.
After this second fermentation was completed the bottles rested in the cellar for some 18 months before being disgorged. The balance of fruit and acidity was perfect in 2007 and we are excited by our two wines, Warden Vineyard (a blend of Bacchus and Reichensteiner) and Warden Abbot (Regner, Reichensteiner, Müller Thurgau with a hint of Bacchus). There is a style for everyone with the Abbot being slightly sweeter than the Vineyard.
Tasting notes by Derek Smedley MW:
Warden Vineyard Sparkling Extra Dry 2007 (£16.50 per bottle inc VAT)
The elderflower fragrances so typical of the Bacchus grape are there on the nose underpinned by lemon and pineapple. Apple crispness gives a racy feel on the palate with behind the freshness some sweeter more white peach flavours. The finish is long and elegant. I can think of no better aperitif whetting the appetite for the meal to come.
Warden Vineyard Abbot Sparkling Brut 2007 (£16.00 per bottle inc Vat)
The ripeness of the fruit gives richness to the nose, pineapple and white peach refreshed by some apple. On the palate there is depth of flavour, more of a greengage character, the layers of fruit ensuring complexity. Although there is a fleshiness about the fruit behind is crisp apple lifting the flavours and refreshing the back palate. It makes a great glass of wine and has enough character to compliment food not only fish but chicken
