MORE AWARDS FOR BEDFORDSHIRE’S VINEYARD
Warden Abbey Vineyard has won two Bronze Awards in the 2009 International Wine Challenge, the World's most prestigious and influential independant wine competition, to add to the string of awards the vineyard has won since its first vintage in 1980. Entries came from a record 41 countries.
Both Warden Bacchus 2006 and 2007 won Bronze Awards.
Warden Abbey Vineyard has picked up a number of awards for its 2006 wines.
 In the prestigious International Wine Challenge, for which over 9,000 wines are entered from all over the world, both Warden Vineyard 2006 and Warden Celebration 2006 received Bronze Awards. Warden Celebration, a blend of Reichensteiner 40% and Regner 60%, was created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the replanting of Warden Abbey Vineyard, 400 years after the medieval vineyard ceased production following the dissolution of the Abbey in the 1530’s.
Warden Celebration 2006 received another Bronze Award from the East Anglian Winegrowers’ Association Wine of the Year Award (won by Warden in 2001) together with a Silver Award for Warden Bacchus 2006.
Bacchus 2006 was also Highly Commended in the UK Vineyards Association English/Welsh Wine of the Year Awards.
Warden Abbey Vineyard is Bedfordshire’s only vineyard.
Proprietor Jane Whitbread said: “After disappointing years in 2004 and 2005 we are delighted to be winning awards again.”
The award-winning wines will be available for tasting at our annual Vineyard Open Weekend on 13 and 14 September.
